Ghosts

I am haunted by Ghosts.
Phillippe Starck's Louis Ghosts.
Oh, how I pine for these chairs.
I wonder, will dog hair cling to them?
Would they be hairy Ghosts a la Meret Oppenheim?
Will I need a hairy teacup too?

Lucky 13

These fishing lures are so charming.
My favorite is Tiny Lucky 13.
It's a vintage Heddon lure.
Fishing tackle is so intriguing.
All I need to catch a bunch of small fish is
a plain hook and bread balls.
Works every time!

Morning Crack

I am a morning person. It's my most productive time.
I like to work for a couple of hours and then take a break
for my greatest morning indulgence:
A double espresso and an hour of mindless breakfast television.
Espresso is undoubtedly an addiction of mine. I call it my morning crack.
Somehow it seems more civilized when sipped from a
beautiful china cup designed by Christian Tortu.

Celebrate Love

True confessions.

I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day per se,
though I do enjoy painting hearts and
I most certainly do believe in love.
This is my Jar of Love No. 8 - Celebrate Love.
If only we could bottle love.

Rain Clouds

These are my new rain clouds.
When it rains it pours.
Tears from the sky.

Problem Guests

When in doubt, I always refer to Amy Vanderbilt's
Book of Etiquette and Guide to Gracious Living.
Her advice for getting rid of those pesky, problem guests:
Don't offer another beverage, don't stoke the fire.
Meet my old friends: think and worry.
They always visit together and they talk incessantly.
I need to politely get rid of them.

Peas Please

My sisters and I had an album called The Roaring Twenties.
We played it over and over and over again.
We sang Charleston, Varsity Drag, Bye Bye Blackbird,
and Old Piano Roll Blues with gusto.
One of our favorite songs was Sister Kate, I wish I could shimmy
like my sister Kate, she shimmies like jelly on a plate.
I love this old tune, recently revived by The Ditty Bops
I've been obsessed with making aspic of late and
I'm planning to resurrect some classic Betty Crocker recipes.
Any food that you can mold, wiggle and jiggle is pretty cool.
Imagine towers of peas. Jellied food will be all the rage!

Beekeeper

I thought I would wear my party hat today.
No, there's no party. I just feel like it.
So many thoughts swarming around by brain.
An unquiet mind, you might say.
Stirring up the honey.

Yellow Dog Day

Have you read The Sopping Thursdsay by Edward Gorey
An umbrella is missing ... a dog saves the day.
Today is a little tribute to our sweet girl, our lovely dog, LuLu.
A great companion of thirteen years and counting!
It's a yellow dog day. The storm has passed. The sun is out.
Weather conditions look good. Future is bright.

An Offering

I love natural history.
For those enthusiasts who love natural history with a twist,
you must have a copy of  The Rarest of the Rare,  a lovely collection of
oddities from the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

For those with a predilection for taxidermy,
you must know French artist, Annette Messager and
acquaint yourself with Mes Pensionnaires, My Boarders:
A case of little sparrows for whom she has lovingly knitted
sweaters, scarves and muffs.

Memento Mori

A bit of nostalgia today.
Remembering this old Burl Ives album that we had growing up.
There was an old lady who swallowed a fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly,
perhaps she'll die.
